Director’s Corner…

Oh no!  2010 is already 1/6th behind us.

January was packed with three college visits, resulting in four “student guests” for the March chapter meeting.  We hope that each will join the chapter.

Nancy will visit Avila Advantage and Ottawa University in March.

Thanks to the Board of Directors who will help me make college class visits but I am looking for additional volunteers to fill three roles; see descriptions below.

Volunteers Needed

College Visit Ambassador

·          Works with the Director of Student Membership to identify target colleges and universities for class visits.

·          Make appropriate contact to administration and/or instructor to set up classroom visits.

·          Provide feedback to the Director of Student Membership as to the outcome of your visit.

·          Prepare maximum of 10-15 minutes to introduce PMI, the KC PMI chapter, benefits of membership, cost and benefits for student members.  Address certifications at a high level as needed by the audience.  (This is not about you; the purpose of the visit is to attract student members.)

·          Welcomes student “guests” at chapter meetings; sit with them of identify another chapter member to “host”.

·          Maintain an ongoing relationship with the college and the students who responded due to the visit.

·          KC PMI brochures and student “gifts” available for each visit.

·          Multiple positions available.

Student Member Web Page Manager

·          Works with the Director of Student Membership to collect data for each monthly update to the student membership web page.

·          Works with the Web Master to follow standards established for web pages.

2010 College Scholarship Program

 

Award:  Two scholarships of $1,250 each.

 

Qualifications of Candidates:

a)     Candidates must be a member of the KC PMI chapter or a direct family member of a chapter member.  (This includes step children and grandchildren but not cousins, aunts or uncles.) 

b)      Candidates must be enrolled (full time or part-time status) and seeking a degree (any focus area) at the Associate, Undergraduate, Graduate, or PhD level at an accredited university or college.  (Certificate programs do not qualify if not associated with a degree program.) 

 

Application Process:

a)     Global PMI administers the scholarship program from reviewing the submissions to awarding the winners.  (KC PMI chapter has no influence.)

b)     The application is completed online; letters of recommendation are online; transcripts must be mailed from the educational institution.

c)     New process for 2010—Every candidate must contact Nancy Petersen no later than May 1 at nancypetersen@earthlink.net or 816-695-3578 before starting the application process.  Nancy will be the one and only individual in the chapter who knows who has applied and will keep this information confidential.  This will ensure that we have a true count of candidates who fit our scholarship qualifications and direct them to Andrew Stitt at PMI Global for assistance to get their documents submitted on time (June 1).

d)     Information will be posted to the Student Membership page on the chapter’s website www.kcpmichapter.org.

 

Volunteers Needed--continued

 

Student Member “Care” Support

·          Works with the Director of Student Membership to identify new student members; contacts these new members to gather information missing from their contact information as well as the college or university they attend.

·          Reaches out to each student member at least two time during the year to ascertain what the chapter can do for them.

·          Gathers pictures of student members and notes of interest for posting to the KC PM student membership page.

·          Keeps Director of Student Membership apprised of contacts and feedback gathered.

 

Who Qualifies for Student Membership?

 

Per global PMI, Student Member is defined as:  “If you are enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited (or global equivalent) college or university, you may join PMI as a student member.”
